Made in God’s Image

Genesis 1:26-27 tells us that God wanted to make us in His image. Did you ever wonder why? Why specifically in the image of God?

I recently became a grandmother. We were blessed with 2 grandchildren 2 months apart this year! As I was holding my grandson and interacting with him this past week, I was considering how much he physically reflects the image of his parents. Then he made an expression that reminded me of one of my own baby pictures. In the moments of letting this soak in and pondering on how God made us to reproduce people like us, my grandson gave me a huge smile. This wasn’t just a smile because he was happy, he was looking at me and interacting with me. He was smiling AT ME and my interaction with him. He took pleasure in it.

I cannot express the amount of joy that moment gave me, and it brought tears to my eyes. In light of this moment and my musings, my thoughts turned toward God making us in HIS image. If my grandchildren bring me such joy just because they experience pleasure while interacting with me, imagine how much pleasure God has when we experience pleasure in our interaction with Him!

We are told in Colossians 1:16 that all things were created through Him and FOR Him. God created us in His image to reflect Him for His pleasure and for His glory. Doesn’t it feel so good when someone is genuinely happy to see us and spend time with us? And doesn’t it feel so good knowing God feels that way about spending time with us? And does it not blow your mind that The Almighty God gets pleasure out of interaction with you – individually – even with the millions of people He created – you are equally important to Him?

Dwell on that for a while my sweet friend, and let it bring a smile to your face.
